Types of Attraction

There are many types of attraction. Although the only two that are gone into depth with on this site are romantic and sexual, it's useful to know about more of them.

Sexual attraction is attraction to someone because of a sexual impulse. To learn more about different sexualities, look at our sexualities page.

Romantic attraction is attraction to someone because of a desire to be with them in a romantic relationship. For more information on romantic orientations, see this page.

Other types of attraction, which are not discussed on this website, are listed below. Most of this information comes from this article by the LGBT Center of the University of North Carolina.

Aesthetic attraction is appreciation of someone else's beauty in a non-sexual and non-romantic way.

Sensual attraction is a desire to have non-sexual contact with someone, such as hugging or cuddling.

Emotional attraction is the desire to get to know someone because of their personality. This tye of attraction is usually present along with other types of attraction, such as sexual or romantic.

Intellectual attraction is the desire to interact with someone based on the way they think rather than the person themselves.
