Queer

The term "queer" has evolved over the years. By definition, queer means strange, or odd, but it began to be used as a mocking and homophobic word. Recently though, people have started to used the word as more of an umbrella term for anyone in the LGBTQ+ community. Many people use queer to describe themselves when they aren't sure of their identity because it covers the entire community without associating the person with any specific identity. Although it is usually safe to use the word, not everyone is comfortable being considered queer because of the history surrounding it, so be careful when using it.
